The Kitab al-Muwatta is a book of legal opinions written by Imam Malik ibn Anas, generally considered as the greatest jurist from the early Islamic period. The book contains 57 volumes and spans 10,000 pages. It was originally written around 200 AH / 823 CE and first translated into Latin by Abraham Michael Lande in 1894. This first translation has been updated twice since then with a third updated edition released in 2006 for modern readers. This post will give short reviews of these three updated editions as well as all other available online "Arabic" editions of the Kitab al-Muwatta that can be found on for free or download for free. This list is not comprehensive and I will update this post as I find more online versions that can be found with a simple internet search. In addition, I'll include a link to the latest Counter Terrorism Specialists' Paperback edition of the Muwatta in PDF. The 36 volumes of this "Arabic" edition is also available in PDF at the following URL: http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.2190/S0080-56582012000200001 [ARTICLE END] This paperback edition is brought to you by: The Institute for Social Policy and Understanding (ISPU) http://socialunderstanding.org/. This edition is also available for free in PDF form at http://www.islamicportal.com/muwatta.pdf for download for free. This is the only online "English" version of Muwatta currently available on the internet that can be read in full, which comes from an earlier translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan. The Arabic text is included with this edition, but it is not searchable nor downloadable. The best feature of this edition is that it has a link to a copy of Tirmidhi's abridgement of Muwatta named Jami' al-Tirmidhi . If you want to check if this link is working, just go to http://www.alukah.net/hadith/index.php?id=1010 and scroll down to the section titled "Tirmidhi in English" This version of the Muwatta is the only online free version that offers searchable text with hyperlinks. However, it does not include Arabic numbers or hyperlinks in parenthesis like other online versions do. This edition also has poor quality images (99%). Click on the image for a full view. This translation was made by Mohamed El-Jayoubi with 9 volumes in PDF available for download at http://jssa. info/pdf/vol1.pdf and click for more. This version is available in PDF format with Arabic text and translated into English by Abdul Hamid Siddiqi who is the founder of the Journal of Islamic research and Publications (JIRP) as well as a lecturer at University of Karachi's Law department. The complete series is available here: http://www.alukah.net/books/2597 I do not know if the publisher has changed the license to this work since it was first published, but I am linking you to Google Books where it can be downloaded for free and read online: https://books.google. cfa1e77820
